One quick question, guys: the addition of the jumplist recent files feature meant that when opening the right click context menu of some items there can be a small delay while the application verifies if that particular application has a list of recent files or not.

If it does not, the "Recent Files" item does not appear in the main right click context menu.

This verification is done to prevent an empty "Recent Files" sub-menu from being added to every item that qualifies to having a jump list, but it does imply that potential small delay when opening the main right click menu (it is negligible for some items but quite noticeable in others)

Has this delay bothered any of you guys?

The alternative is NOT to do the check when opening the main menu. This means the delay will then ONLY happen when/if actually opening the actual "Recent Files" sub-menu. The drawback is that some items will display an empty "Recent Files" sub-menu.

Or you can disable the Recent Files Jumplist feature entirely in the Tasks tab of Preferences, of course.

@Jorge - Before I ask a gauge question I will answer yours.

I have my recent files disabled so I am definitely the wrong person to ask that.

Gauge Overlays For Disk Monitor ?

Jorge I think I might be unnecessarily either making my life more difficult or confusing myself.

You asked us to test. I am testing one I will never release purely to see what it can do. There are two Gauges basically...

So I cannot seem to get a Gauge overlay working whether it is a generic one or not. The gauge arms are easy, in this I am missing something.

Because there are two gauges logic says an 01 and an 02.

I think I have mistyped. This would be a generic one? Or do I have the H in the wrong position? DiskShowGaugeHOverlay? neither seems to work. The image file I thought would be DiskGaugeOverlay01.png (and 02 for the second??).
So which might it be or none of them as I tried all below? If an overlay in DD is not available, fine, and yes I read your interactions with Picco14...they do not involve an overlay.
If it is enabled, what would the png correct name be? I got sick of trying so many variations as they all did not work. So yes, that's on me.

DiskShowGaugeOverlayH=true ?

DiskShowGauge01OverlayH=true ?

DiskShowGaugeOverlay01H=true ?

DiskShowGaugeHOverlay01=true ?

It is not an essential feature and I can work without it and won't use it on every gauge, but if it is available, it would be nice to know the correct configuration.

Bass.... Sigh :roll: lol

Please don't take this the wrong way: you are a brilliantly creative but scatterbrained genius lol :D

Where did you get "DiskShowGaugeOverlayH" from? That doesn't exist anywhere. Read back, in the beta post I mentioned what the names are and what they do. They are per SECTION overlays, not *gauge* overlays. And the name would be DiskShowSectionOverlayH anyway, not DiskShowGaugeOverlayH :D

Ah... so it goes into the section overlay. Wow, that is so much easier (facepalm).

As I mentioned "Jorge I think I might be unnecessarily either making my life more difficult or confusing myself." Yup. :lol: :lol:
Thanks Jorge :)

That was like running around the house looking for your car keys in every imaginable place and they are right in front of you the whole time. :lol:

Not too, too bad, thanks Jorge. Nausea's gone, but still get a headache all the time so lots of paracetamol. Nothing weird. :) Sleeping a lot and have the place darkened. Taking it easy as much as possible.

If it doesn't get better soon please get it checked out... can't mess around in our age bracket.

Bah Humbug! ;) No need getting checked out - doing that myself, thank you. :D Getting a little better by the day anyway. "In our age group?!" Hah, says the youngster. :P I'll be fine. Complete rest would be better, but I just get too restless.

Update is good. well done :)

If I may make a suggestion?
The storing of Vertical or Horizontal Disk orientation is great though it should probably include any User's selection of whether they chose a disk drive or ring drive per theme. Some users will only choose disks and it might have the same misinterpretation of them saving modules and it not saving their preference per theme.
Just an observation :)

@JORGE

MOST people who aren't into the details of Winstep seem to see it as a super-charged desktop on steroids. This means they change like a desktop, a theme here and there, or a wallpaper. So they might over the course of a year only change the theme 3-20 times unless they try a new theme. While it is a simple change of icons in right clicking, I noticed many only want to click once, especially the ones who want a minimum of fuss and they number in the many. Do not believe me, I am sure you can get enough feedback for yourself :)

Good to see that 26.1 is out there - I'll try and get into Windblows in the next few days (got a quack appointment Monday, and near the end of my time on computer for today). Should be OK for Tuesday, Wednesday latest - quite curious to try out the Disk mod. :D

Ok, MAJOR MAJOR bug in v26.1 due to a last minute change trying to fix something else (I should have known better!):

Changing the position of a sub-dock in a dock or moving a sub-dock in a dock to another dock or shelf caused the sub-dock and all its contents to be permanently lost!

Since this only affects Winstep Xtreme and Nexus Ultimate (but it is serious enough to warrant a hotfix!) I am going to re-release v26.1, but for these two products only.

As usual, once I've implemented the hotfix release here, the Winstep Update Manager should pick it up within 24 hours (or you can simply click the Check For Updates button).

New build should be up within the next hour or less.

Avast see's the latest setup.exe as a suspicious file.

It eventually allows the user to elect to continue with the installation (after sending a copy of the file 'to their labs').

Just for info.

Thanks for the feedback. Most AV solutions these days seem to be more of a nuisance than real help, especially when they decide that blocking a file without allowing you to override that action (and sometimes without even telling you about it) is a good idea.

The only AV I still have no complains about - and which I run everyday - is ESET.

Yep, have to agree. From my experience of other users and their various AVs the whole thing is a joke. ESET may not be perfect - it does have a few minor irritations - but it's the only one I use myself in Windows without ever cause for real complaint. Just wish they'd do a proper Linux version of the basic package, preferably as a Ubuntu universal archive and a Fedora one. (Don't give crap ;) for other distros.) One this is that as I don't use Windows on a regular basis, with sometimes as much as a fortnight between booting it up, there's always a ton of updates to deal with, but that's not ESET's fault, just mine.

Ok guys, unfortunately another issue with v26.1, this time not so serious but still annoying.

This one happens inside the Disk Meter logic of the Winstep Service and was very, very, difficult and time consuming to troubleshoot, especially because it isn't even a logic error. The code should work, but because of a weird coercion issue it does not and overflows instead.

So, this will only happen after about 24.86 days of system uptime. At that point collecting SMART data for the Disk Meter module will fail and nothing will bring it back until you reboot the system (or until the next release, of course, since I already fixed it here).

It is also possible for the service to crash after those 24.86 days, but if that happens you should be able to restart it again without issues other than SMART data collection not working until you reboot.
