You might actually have to wait a bit longer than the next release...

Oh so there's actually a theming GUI coming up? Nice, I thought you were working on documentation only. Is that in the works as well, so we can use it until the GUI will be released?

I'm firing on multiple directions at once... what actually ends up on a release depends on several factors, some things take a long time to be implemented and official releases can not always wait for them to be fully functional (so when that happens they simply are not part of an official release).

New documentation likely won't see the light of day yet, either. For now I have only been experimenting with it, adding the new screenshots, etc...

What will see the light of day, however, is the "minimize to dock" feature after an Explorer crash. Shouldn't have been necessary, but I ended up resetting all the shell hooks after an Explorer crash and that takes care of business. Tested here by killing Explorer in Task Manager.

Given the complexities and sheer size of the tasks for both the User Guide and the Theme Builder, I'm fairly sure the earliest we could reasonably expect anything concrete would be around the end of (northern hemisphere) spring, surely. Don't know why anyone would expect anything in next release!

Perhaps because I kind of implied that in the first post of this thread? Eheh :D

But yes, huge tasks usually require a few 'dry runs.' I like to test the waters before I dive into the deep end. Rome wasn't built in a single day either :D

Ask those who still remember how long adding a dock to WorkShelf (Nexus) was discussed before I actually came through with it. At one point it became known as "the thing that cannot be named" :D

Hopefully this will happen much much faster lol

Ha, chance would be a fine thing! Won't be able to get into Windows till next week now, as far as I can see. :/ Real PITA!

Thought just crossed my mind - forgot to mention that Proton's NetShield checks on the server, so anything never gets as far as the local (user) system.

Didn't look like that to me.

Yeah, I well remember how long it took for the dock to come along. :) Don't recall re: "the thing that cannot be named" though - just "The Thing that must not be named/" in re: the ThemeBuilder. :D

New betas of v26.3 are out:

Winstep Xtreme beta:
https://www.winstep.net/xtreme-beta.zip

Nexus Ultimate beta:
https://www.winstep.net/ultimate-beta.zip

Nexus free beta:
https://www.winstep.net/nexus-beta.zip

This is a beta and MUST be installed ON TOP of a full v26.1 OR LATER installation. Do NOT uninstall anything first, just exit all running Winstep applications and run the beta setup file.

There is no need to backup your settings first, but it does not hurt if you do either.

####

Techlobo,
even though I cannot reproduce the issue here, I used ChatGPT assistance to try and make an intelligent guess on what could be causing the "double click on the desktop" problem. I'm not making any claims, but please check to see if this beta has fixed the issue.

Highlight of the new additions in this beta:

* A new Hotkey Manager has been added to the Troubleshooting Options dialog.

* Hotkeys can now be assigned to sub-docks, grid stacks and launch pads.

* Added new "Combine with the Grayscale effect" setting to the Mouseover effects.

* Optimized scrolling in shelf tabs (please try this out and let me know if you actually feel the difference)

There are many other additions, changes and fixes, refer to the change log for a complete list.

Thought just crossed my mind - forgot to mention that Proton's NetShield checks on the server, so anything never gets as far as the local (user) system.

Should be able to get into Windows tomorrow. *But* - had a chat in another forum with another Proton VPN/NetShield user who's a coder and has experienced the same issue. No use whatsoever trying to check on the trackers, NetShield checks DBs of known websites sending out trackers, ads, malware etc. on its server and if no results checks in the VPN tunnel and intercepts if anything found. So nothing ever gets through to the user, Netshield just lists the number of trackers, ads, malware stopped. However, it looks like the unusual high number of trackers may actually be due to a bug.

Downloaded the new beta in Linux and copied to a Windows drive, ready to go! :D

I've just tested free beta and that explorer restart bug is now fixed, thanks!

Sorry Jorge, only had time for a quick test but it still exhibits the same behaviour :(

Thanks for trying though!

Damn. I really had high-hopes.

Can you please try two things though?

1. Is the dock set to auto-hide? If so, turn that off to see if the issue persists.

2. Does turning "Grab focus when activated" off in the Dock Properties dialog -> Behavior tab -> Activation Settings change anything?

To be clear I don't use a Dock, but if I set Workshelf auto-hide to off then things work correctly as mentioned previously.

Interesting point though - it is possible to select 'Disable Auto-hide' from the workshelf contect menu (LHS) without the workshelf being displayed. In this case the double-click behaviour does not work i.e. the application is not opened. However if Auto-hide is disabled and the workshelf is displayed, then double-click works correctly.

This option is not available in Workshelf - the nearest equivalent appearing to be 'Automatically activate the shelf on mouse over'. Switching this off does not alter behaviour observed.
