Hello Jorge,

I have nothing but good news to report so far. I've had absolutely no problems on Vista x64. I'll keep plugging at it.

I find myself wondering where the license key file should be placed on a 64-bit Vista system? I'm building a new primary computer and I'm moving all my software from computer to computer.

Hi Magus, and thanks for the info regarding Vista 64 bit.

As for the location of the license key, look in your personal Documents folder, you should find a shortcut to the Winstep user data folder. Open it and you should see a Licenses folder, which is where you should put the license key.

As of Winstep Xtreme 8.2 and since yesterday, the new .wsxkey license keys are self-installable, i.e.; all you need to do is double click them. :D

That did the trick. The "Public" directory structure was, of course, the only place I hadn't looked. I'm still learning where Vista hides things.

It's made worse by the fact that I still use a command line for things whenever possible, it's so much faster than clicking through a series of folder folders, but Vista makes things more complicated than it should be by:

a) Virtualizing things
b) Presenting a different view of things between running something as an Administrator and any other user.
c) Having the OS GUI hide or misrepresent the actual location of things in the on-disk directory structure.

For example: from the command line the Winstep license directory is really "\Users\Public\Documents\Winstep\Licenses" but from the GUI the folder displayed as living in "<Username>\Documents\Winstep" when clicked on actually takes you to, at least as displayed "Public\Public Documents\Winstep\Licenses".

Nothing like making things more complicated than they have to be. Sigh.

Thanks again.

Magus
