You can download the new beta from:

http://pwp.netcabo.pt/jcrabbit/xtreme-beta.zip

IMPORTANT: This beta package is an update and MUST be installed on top of a previous Winstep Xtreme 8.9 installation!

Before running XtremeSetup.exe, remember to exit all Winstep applications first.

This is a release that doesn't have many new features, but those it has are pretty major:

NextSTART:

* Added Windows Seven (Win7) task management abilities to NextSTART:

    Grouped Window previews.

Interactive window previews (you can click on the thumbnail itself to bring a window forward, close it or minimize it)

'Peek into window' ability, i.e.; mouse over a window preview and only that window is displayed on the screen.

Smooth morph of window previews as you mouse over the tasklist.

* Tasklist buttons can now be re-organized easily by clicking on them and dragging (I know, this was already there, but previously you had to press SHIFT while dragging).

* Added a context menu to the Start Button and many other useful entries to the context menus of the Quick Launch buttons, Startbar and Tasklist (check out the Tasklist Settings sub-menu of a task's context menu - one of the options added is to iconize the tasklist so text labels are not displayed, a la Win7).

* Finally fixed for good the problem that caused NextSTART to crash when double clicking a menu folder item.

WorkShelf:

* No longer required to have a dock control icon on docks (see the Dock Contents section in the Dock Properties panel).

* The dock control menu can now be accessed via any dock item.

* Blank sub-docks can be quickly and easily created by right clicking any dock item and selecting 'Insert New SubDock'.

* Subdocks can be detached, duplicated and deleted from the context menu of the parent item in the dock.

* Shelf tabs can be quickly reorganized by clicking and dragging.

* Fixed the problem under Vista in which windows lost their maximized status when restored from the taskbar.

As usual, the complete list of changes, fixes and additions can be found in the History files after installation.

It is particular important to me that I get feedback on the new Win7 related taskbar features:

Is the slide/morphing performance of the new window previews ok on your system?

I also noticed that some of the timings for the thumbnails to appear seem to be a bit off - sometimes I quickly mouse over the taskbar and a thumbnail just jumps up and down. Do you also feel that some of the delays are off? When?

Is the speed in which windows fade in and out when using the new 'peek window' feature ok?

Are you having any trouble with the new 'peek window' feature?

Note that 'peek window' is not perfect, I've seen at least one application which refuses to let its window go away, and, under Vista, windows belonging to high privilege processes can cause the focus to be taken away from the currently active window when peeking.

Have fun,

A few issues with the new Win7 taskbar......

When i hover on the thumbnail preview, the Nexus bar hides. I could live with this.....

When i hover on the thumbnail preview, some modules disappear. Specifically the recycler module and the weather module.

o.k. After playing with this for awhile, i can now see that hiding the nexus dock and the modules may be by design. However, that then leaves the issue of the other modules not hiding. Specifically, the cpu meter and the clock are not hiding when hovering over the thumbnail previews.

Ah, gotcha, thanks!

Guess I'll have to come up with a way to monitor windows hidden while the 'peek window' function is active and quickly 'hide' them again if they re-appear when they are not supposed to.

Win7 peek window ability is backed up by the OS. No such luck in Vista or XP, unfortunately.

If i set the nexus dock to auto collapse, i am getting dock artifacts when i click on the start menu item. The only way i can get rid of the artifact is to fein a property change in the dock settings. I posted a picture here....http://www.spiderrider.com/nexus_menu_artifact.jpg

Couple of items:

1. where can I get that theme you you are showing off Jorge? :D
2. some of my systray icons are missing. See screenshot link below. I have on occasion seen them while using Winstep Extreme....just can figure out how to make them always show. One that is missing is definintely the speaker/sound icon...and power too. Maybe I am just too new to Winstep...LOTS of options I have not even tried yet 8)

1. AeroSky (http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx? ... 40&libid=7)

2. Try pressing CTRL+F9 to refresh the systray.

Cool thanks!

The Crtl+F9 worked...just curious: why would I need to do that? Is there a setting to control this "hiding", or is it just "one of those things"?

Thanks again.

The Systray handling in NextSTART/Xtreme is a 'hack' that manipulates the real systray. It is not a perfect hack, unfortunately, and sometimes the systray goes off to 'neverland', or an icon is updated but not the transparency mask.

CTRL+F9 activates a NextSTART hotspot which is associated to the 'Refresh Systray' internal command.

I don't know if you saw the post that i made regarding the remnants in the Nexus bar, but, i believe that the cause was due to the "Bounce icon on launch" setting in the dock properties. Unchecking that option has fixed the problem for me.

FYI, the CTRL+F9 has stopped working for me, which is a bad thing, as the ones it hides are pretty important ones (like volume). I can "deal" with it for now by disabling NexStart Transparency, but it looks pretty bad without it.

Let me know if you need help troubleshooting it.

Thanks.
