Thanks for the screenshots, Thornsten.

And without the 4.70 version of the Setpoint drivers the problem disappears, right? What the heck is Logitech doing with Setpoint?! These are mouse and keyboard driver's, fer Christ sake, they have no business existing in other processes address space and, worse, interfering with them!

I tried it again today on my XP computer at work. It seems to behave better, but its still very slow and choppy. I'm not sure why because it happens under both monitors / video cards: the built in Intel card and the Nvidia card.

Perhaps consider adding an option to turn off the transparency-to-opcacity transition when using the peek feature?

I did better: I ajusted the code so the rate at which windows fade in and out is adaptative to system speed and never takes longer than a maximum pre-defined time.

Gone is also that horrible flicker where windows appeared initially black as they were being set semi-transparent.

Good thing I was able to test all this on a very old XP test system I have here featuring a super-fast 500 Mhz PII.

My kick-ass 450 mhz windows 2000 machine spits at your pathetic 500 mhz Xp computer. Not that I ever turn it on except maybe once a year when I accidentally bump into the computer's On button ....

Still, thanks for making the effect adaptive :)

Yes. The problem is not the driver itself, it is setpoint.exe or an other process which setpoint is starting. With this version of setpoint some configurations are not stored... so i think there is a good chance, that they will correct these errors. However the problem today is there.

Alright, I've uploaded what should be the final version to

http://pwp.netcabo.pt/jcrabbit/xtreme-beta.zip

It would be nice if you guys could download and install it to see if there are any last minute problems. Any feedback, good or bad, is appreciated.

All going well, the official 8.11 release should be out on Monday.

The new start menu options are great. However, if i associatte the start button to the windows start menu, i then get a hotspot button for the nextstart menu. It looks like maybe the hotspot for the menu that isn't used needs to be disabled......

***EDIT*** Never mind, i somehow had the hotspot area being applied to my entire desktop. If i tried to change launch with to click on hotspot instead of click on hotspot button, i was getting a nextstart menu every time i clicked on the desktop....so i had changed the launch with option back to click on hotspot button. Now i changed the hotspot area to 0,0,0,0 and the launch with option back to click on hotspot and all is well.......GREAT JOB!!!

Hi Jorge,

if you look here to my pictures, you see that i'm using nextstart as a menu popping up everywhere over all apps by using a mouse hotkey.

The only problem or let me say wrong/difficult behavier is if i doubleclick on a menu entry to open as example the computer in a new window.
Sometimes it seems, that my doubleclick sequence is not fast enough, sometime it is. I have enabled "toggle" submenu.

I'm running the latest version from sunday.

Please make the following test:

1. Create an entry computer which is showing as a submenu all your drives
2. doubleclick on computer without the expanded submenu, you will see a window is opened showing your drive...easy with a doubleclick, no problem.
3. now expand the submenu from computer... you will see your drives. With the submenu expanded, try to double click on computer to open a new window. you will recognize, that a double click is difficult recognized, it will always toggle the submenu, but if you uclick several times, suddenly the double click is recognized.

here you see from left to right: The taskmenu entry, the running tasks (2) and on the right the preview of the selected task. You see the blue bar which task is selected. If you mouseover here on the preview, all windows are hidden and only the selected task is shown.

Problem:

Here same thing with a little difference. You see, that the blue bar is now missing over the selected task! Also lost is the function that if you mouseover the task that all windows are hidden.

What i have done: Move your mouse over one task till the preview is shown. Now move the mouse several times up and down over the tasks (fast). All the previews are switching very fast. Now "suddenly" mouseover to a preview. You will see, that the selected task has a blue bar and also the preview is correct. Suddenly the blue bar will disapear and the mouse over of the task has no function. This will not happen if you are using very slow mousemovements. I have a successratio of 50% when i'm using the task option as i'm using the other nextstart menus... difficult to describe.

Ok, I managed to figure out what the problem was: by doing what you were doing, you moved the mouse pointer over the thumbnail while the thumbnail window was still busy switching between thumbnails.

To prevent 'bad things' from happening, the peek window feature is temporarilly disabled while in the process of switching thumbnails. By the time the process finishes, you are already over the thumbnail and so the 'peek window' trigger never fired.

Not a biggie, as you can just move the mouse pointer to the titlebar area above the thumbnail and back into the thumbnail to re-activate the peek window function, but I'll see what I can do to fix it.

Hi Jorge,

i just have testet the added feature Tasklist Settings in the Startbar: Great!

In the Tasklistsettings itself there is the Menu: Style, an empty row?????, Icon Size etc.

The empty row shows normally Label on and off, but only if in the Takslist Skinning Preferences the "Show Caption on Tasks" is switched on.

Also switching the style from Windows7 to Classic has no effect on Labels (they are not shown if in the Preferences "Show Caption on Tasks" is switched off... which makes it a bit difficult.

So i think the behavior should be:
The show lables should be always shown in the tasklistsettings and if switched on, the "Show Caption on Tasks" should be set to on or off.

Also if in the Tasklistsetting the Labels are switched off and so in the "Show Caption on Tasks" the style "Classic" should switch always the lables on... that was the difference from style classic to style Windows7.

So the Takslistsettings should controll the Nextstart Settings "Show Caption on Tasks" and not the other way arround.

If you have enabled grouping of similar tasks and you switch to Style Windows7 and then back to Classic, the grouping of tasks are lost.

I have recognized, that i'm using very often the resourcemonitor in Vista.
May be it is possible if you right click on the startbar that under the Taskmanager also the Resource Monitor is shown?

That's by design. Although I'm not so sure if it should be.

So, just saw your video about Windows 7 features.... great!!!

I wonder myself why here in the forum is no description / advertisement about these features? (Sticky)

I normally coming directly here to the forum so that i have not recognized this feature.

However, as i have understood, the tasklist is showing in windows 7 only icons. But as far as i have understood a big feature of windows 7 is to show directly previews of all grouped tasks?

How can i enable this feature in nextstart taskbar?

I switch the taskbar to style 7 and i see the icons of my running programs. If i mouseover a grouped task a popup-list opens with the icons and labels of my running tasks. As i understood, i should see on this level all previews of the grouped tasks?

I MUST HAVE THIS FEATURE.... HOT HOT HOT

ohhh Jorge, you are the greatest!

By the way, just seen, that other companies have no developing done on similar products since over one year! So Winstep is the best investment a user can do... including nearly weekly updates!
