Greetings,

I am running Windows Vista-64 Business on a Intel Quad CPU with 8 gig of ram. I have occationally had the problem of having the error message: "Error: Access Violation.". I am given the choice of Retry or Cancel. I usually just select Cancel and restart Nexus. The message, if it appears, always shows up just after the Nexus Tip Of The Day message appears.

I am running Windows 7-64 Ultimate on my computer at home. This problem does happen as well. There are no messages in the logs to show what might have been the problem. The only thing that may be common to both my work and home computer are that they both have Intel CPU's and both are running x64 operating systems. On my home computer I run with full privileges (UAC off) so there shouldn't be any problems with accessing date files.

I did take a screenshot of the error message in case that may help provide some clue. This is the free version of the Nexus Dockbar. Please let me know if there is other information that I can provide to help find this error.

Thank you for your time.

Winstep applications are developed on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit system.

Do you get the Access Violation error as soon as the dock pops up or does it take some time, e.g.; 30 seconds after startup?

Also, try installing the beta you can find HERE to see if that solves your problem, then please let me know.

Greetings,

The error message comes up very fast when starting up Nexus. Just after the Tip Of The Day is shown, the error message pops up over top of it. In the picture, I had moved the error message so you can see the Tip Of The Day in case there was a relation.

I will go ahead and install the Nexus beta to see if there is any difference.

Thank you for your time.

Greetings,

I have applied the patch as you have suggested. Unfortunately, the toolbar had given the same error: Access Violation again this morning. The error message does pop up quickly after the Tip Of The Day. I don't have the time to close the Tip Of The Day message actually. Is there any way to turn on a debug log that could be used to help identify the problem for you?

I have attached the version information and the error message that I had received. I have also moved the error message so the Tip Of The Day could be viewed in case there is a connection.

Thank you for your help.

If you don't mind, I would like to have a look at your current Nexus settings, to see if I can reproduce the problem here and identify it:

Open the Windows Registry Editor, go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WinSTEP2000\NeXuS

click File, Export. Now do the same for

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WinSTEP2000\Shared

and send the two exported files to the Winstep support address, please.

Greetings,

I have downloaded the latest version of the Nexus toolbar. Unfortunately, the error still comes up. I did figure out that it is most definitely related to the Tip Of The Day. When I turn off the Tip Of The Day, the toolbar operates fine and does not crash. When I turn on the Tip Of The Day, then I will get the occational crashes. Hopefully this bit of information will help in narrowing down the code search area and lead to finding this bug.

Thank you for your time and Help.

Thanks for the info, Terry, that should definitely point me in the right direction - I'll have a look at the Tip of the Day code to see if I find anything that could potentially crash the application under unusual circumstances.

But let me add that I never had a problem with it here, nor has anyone ever mentioned a problem with it (on the other hand, I, and I suspect most people, immediately turn that thing off).

Greetings,

Guess I am an oddball as I leave the tips on in case I might learn something new. :P

I have updated to the latest patch but this bug still exists. Had it crash again today. On my other computer, I had turned off the Tip Of The Day and it hasn't crashed at all. I have occationally been fast enough to click on the "Close" button on the Tip Of The Day window before the error pops up, but it doesn't react and then I see the error message appear. So, that specific window is crashing shortly after displaying.

If I may ask, what language is the program written in? I have done development in multiple languages so I was curious.

Thank you for your time.

Sorry for the late reply...

At the time I had a good look at the 'Tip of the Day' code and I didn't see anything that could cause Nexus to crash. I think that dialog is not the cause, although it might be involved in it.

At this point I can only ask any user who has seen this error message to post their issue here, please...
