I originally bought Winstep Xtreme on version 12.2 but got this error when right-clicking an item in a tabbed dock.

Error: Unknown (&H0001007F).

It might be possible to continue running ... etc...

Clicking "Retry" does not work and just comes back with Nexus not responding. Cancel works, but then I need to reboot the computer to get workshelf back because just trying to reload it from the start menu doesn't do anything.

I just bought the 2-5 computer pack of Nexus Ultimate 16.3 and the problem is still there. This is exactly why I asked about trying out the most recent version before committing to purchase it, but got no reply to my email.

Can anyone offer any suggestions about this? It doesn't happen all the time, it's about every 2nd or 3rd right-click on an item. Clicking an item does not cause any problems. But it's very annoying when I'm trying to clean up tabs.

You emailed me yesterday at 17:41 GMT, so less than 24 hours ago. It's Easter weekend here too. :P

Had you waited a bit, I would have been able to tell you that ANY right click problems are caused by buggy 3rd party shell extensions (i.e.; those that attach themselves and their options to the shell right click context menu).

This is not a bug in the Winstep application. It's a bug in a 3rd party application that ends up crashing the Winstep application. As such, there is nothing to fix.

You have basically two options:

1. Figure out which shell extension is causing the problem by trial and error and uninstall the offending application once you know which one it is.

or

2. Disable 'full right click context menu options' (Preferences -> General -> More Options -> Set 'Show full right click context menu options' to 'Never').

The later you can even use to verify what I wrote above. If the Winstep application stops crashing, Bob's your uncle.

hmmmm ... I've got a ton of extensions. I'll have to figure out a way to easily enable/disable some of them.

That's the problem with these things... it's a pain figuring out exactly what is causing an issue, and many times that can only be done by trial and error.

Look at the thread next door regarding NextSTART freezing - now that is, I'm pretty sure, an actual bug in NextSTART, but it was still really difficult to figure out what was triggering it because the OP has an extremely unusual configuration (i.e.; Quick Launch icons disabled).

Did you try already disabling the full right click context menu to confirm it is indeed a bug in a 3rd party context menu extension?

Yeah, I just set that to never and it crashed on the first right-click.

Hmmm... We're we go.

What were/are the options on the context menu? What tab type is that? What item did you right click on?

Perhaps a screenshot in JPG format would be better (you can press the PRTSCR key to put a snapshot of the Desktop into the Windows clipboard and afterwords paste the image into a Paint or something like that).

It happens randomly when I right-click a shortcut to an executable. Right-clicking a missing file to remove it seems to work fine. It's not one certain shortcut that causes it, seems like any exe shortcut will cause it. Here's the screenshot of the menu before it crashes.

Several of these same third party extensions are also installed on other machines that do not crash so I'm just trying to find the ones that are not common across machines.

Ok, see all those options on the context menu just below 'Browse Container'? The 'Run and Trace with Soft Organizer', 'Open with CFF Explorer', etc?

The fact that those appear on the right-click context menu shows me that you have NOT set the 'Show full context menu options' to 'Never'.

If that option is properly set to 'Never' the only options you see in the context menu are those above 'Browse Container' (included) and those below 'Tabs' (included).

But here's something strange ... right-clicking the first icon on the tab brings up a different menu than the second and beyond icons. oops ... scratch that ... first and last icons show the short menu, all in between show the long menu. No ... scratch that too. Some right-clicks show the short menu, some show the long menu. It doesn't seem to matter where they are located.

You're confusing the setting for 'Ballon Tooltips' with the setting for 'Show full context menus'. The latter is at the right of the dialog and is still set to 'Always'.

Yeah, I noticed that and thought that might be the case so I set that to Never as well. That's when I started getting the short menu on some, long menu on others.

Ok, now *I* am getting confused lol. :D

Can you please set the Balloon Tooltips option to 'Always' and the 'Show full right click context menu options?' to 'Never' and then post a screenshot of that dialog so I can confirm the settings are correct?

hmmmm ... ok, and now I'm confused. I set the left combobox to Always and the right to Never. Clicked OK, then Apply. Then went back to More Options to do the SS and the right combo was back to Always. Tried it again, same result.
